About the event

Kritya Foundation Artistic Director Yamini Kalluri joins Baroque cellist Jamie Gallupe for Across Time: Dall’Abaco Reimagined, a collaborative performance presented by the Capital Region Community Foundation.

The performance brings Gallupe and Kalluri together for a new interpretation of Joseph Marie Clément Ferdinand dall’Abaco’s 11 Capricci for Solo Cello, creating a conversation across centuries, continents, and artistic traditions.

Responding to Gallupe’s live performance of the Baroque cello, Yamini Kalluri brings her evolving movement language, rooted in Kuchipudi and Indian classical dance and informed by ballet and modern dance, into dialogue with the elegance, ornamentation, and theatricality of the Baroque. Through gesture, rhythm, footwork, line, and movement, the collaboration explores what can emerge when eighteenth-century European music encounters the body and perspective of a contemporary Indian dancer.

Rather than recreating the past, Across Time considers how art can travel through history, encounter new cultures and artistic languages, and continually transform.
