About the event
Ahead of the 2026 World Dance Festival: Dancing Across Cultural Borders this November, Kritya joins artists from across dance traditions for a special showcase and benefit presented by Lotus Music & Dance.
Representing the Kritya Dance Ensemble, Akhila Ballari will perform the Kuchipudi solo Brindavana Nilaye, a canonical keerthana composed by Oothukadu Venkata Subba Iyer and choreographed by Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam. Set in Reetigowla raagam and Adi talam, Brindavana Nilaye takes us to Brindavan, where a gopika brings Radha the joyful news of Krishna’s return. The choreography explores Radha’s anticipation and devotion, famously likening her to a bee drawn toward a flower symbolizing Krishna.
This special afternoon offers audiences a preview of artists appearing in the upcoming World Dance Festival while supporting Lotus Music & Dance and the festival through an evening of performance, community, and a silent auction.
